Here's wishing you all a very Happy Dussehra- the festival celebrating the victory of good over evil. Let us all strengthen ourselves to embrace the good in others and ourselves.
Moving forward with today's thought, I'd like to ask you: Are we living in the present?
Most of us might have answered-Yes!
But in reality, it is the other way around. We are NOT living in the present. Here's why:
Our minds are constantly thinking about what has happened in the PAST or what the FUTURE will look like. Due to this unconscious habit, most of us are not fully involved in the tasks that we are doing NOW-which ironically will determine the future.
It's a universal fact that we cannot change the past, and we cannot determine what the future holds; the only thing that is in our control is the present. And by living every 'present' thoughtfully, the past and the future will automatically look perfect. This is because a series of 'presents' build a past or a future.
So, what I mean to say is, a great way to prevent overtaxing of the mind and to do things peacefully is to develop a habit of LIVING IN THE PRESENT; and by 'living', I mean mentally existing in the current moment.
But how to practice this?
While you are doing some work or even when you're simply sitting, if you feel you drifted off, then try and focus on your breathing for a few minutes. This is a great way to realign yourself with the present happening again. This will take a while but we must practice instilling this till it comes naturally to us.
