At this time of the year, when love is in the air, let’s recognize the care and affection of all those to whom we matter a lot. Isn’t it true that each one of us is surrounded by a bunch of people who let us feel a sense of security and belonging in this world? This can be anyone ranging from parents, siblings, cousins to that friend who tags you to the meme that’s your inside-joke. It is the time to be grateful for all those who think of us, accept us, bring out the best in us, are there of us, or share stuff captioned: “Saw this and thought of you.”
Whoever makes your tribe, regardless of the relation, or age, are the ones who make everything seem so manageable. So, being a part of this closely-knit tapestry of beautiful relations, it’s time we re-reflect and reiterate our responsibilities in making them count.
So, while we are continuously focused on what we can achieve, let’s find some time to live each day with the following points in mind.
1. Strengthen it with honesty
No matter what you do to deepen a relation, nothing can do the miracles that honesty can. Bonds that are built on the pure foundation of truthfulness will most likely last forever.
2. Presence is the greatest present
By being there for someone, you are making yourself one of those precious people the other person can count on.
3. Lend an ear
It is important to note that it is not always about us. There are times when we are supposed to listen attentively and sympathetically to what the other person is saying. Trust me, letting someone share their feelings or thoughts with you is the biggest thing you can do for them, ever.
4. Let them know
Sometimes actions might not be sufficient to fathom the vastness of your love and care. Therefore, it is occasionally perfect to let people know what they mean to you. Make them recount you as someone who has got their back. For those who do something for you, make sure you tell them how grateful you are for what they did.
5. Interpret compassionately
Don’t be in a hurry to mess up your connections just for the sake of something that was said. This is because most of the time, our interpretation has a bigger role to play than we think. If we consider whatever the other person is saying is solely out of their well-wishing for us, we might be better able to extract the positive notes.
6. Forgive often
Like I have said before, it doesn’t demand a lot of effort to break a bond, but to build one requires the effort of a lifetime. So, why hurry and hold on to that one wrong and forget all the things the other person did right for you?
7. Give, give and give
Never hesitate to give what you can. Give your care, support, encouragement, best wishes, time, and effort whenever possible because these small things have the power to make someone’s day!
8. Stand strong on your impression
Never make the mistake of being carried away by someone else’s impression about a person who matters to you. This is because you might have the power to look into something positive in him/her that the other person failed to.
Wrapping up, I hope you see the compassion and warmth of every relation you hold and work towards strengthening them in the small ways that you can. Here I quote, “The supreme happiness of life consists in the conviction that one is loved.”
